One of my favorite bike routes takes me through the Ballard locks. While this route probably does take longer because you have to walk within the park premises and generally in the summer season the locks is busy with tourists. But at the locks it a joy to take a slower pace to enjoy the beautiful gardens, sight a greedy blue herons that lurk around looking for an easy meal, salmon queuing to go up the ladder or the boats using the locks to go either to Lake Washington or Puget Sound. People watching the amazement of the tourist is also a good time.
However, my post today is about the locks when it's empty. Have you ever seen the locks without water? Neither had I until one day in March when I was biking downtown. These photos are taken of the small locks....can you imagine what the large locks must look like empty?

Skimmin' and Trains
We went to the beach this afternoon for some sunny skim boarding. What a beautiful day at North Beach. There is a series of races going on this weekend, called NOOD so there were plenty of boats out bobbing. When we were down at the beach, there wasn't much wind. We saw a train waiting by Carkeek for a while and shot some skimmin' shots with the train in the backdrop. Even the falcon was out fishing today.....lots of beach action. Here are some shots from today.

Trains and Art
So - it's been a while since I posted. Not because I haven't been taking train pics but more because I'm lazy. We went bike riding last week to pick up our shirts for the St. Patrick's day race and along the way I snapped this picture of a train by the SAM outdoor sculpture park. This was my first time actually walking through the sculpture park. It was very cool.....check it out it you haven't done so.

First full week
So I have now offically been out of work for a week. It's an odd feeling not looking forward to the weekend because every other day is like a weekend. But one week down anyhow.
Today's train shot was just taken as the sun finally decided to come out from behind the clouds for a least a couple minutes. I'm pretty thankful I was out to get my vitamin D. Plus.....lots of train action.

Month Two
So today I went to visit my family to celebrate my nephews 9th birthday. We went to Red Robin where pretty much every table happened to also be celebrating a birthday. After we actually watched some of the Super Bowl.....and we saw that amazing play where the dude intercepted the ball at the other teams goal line and ran it all the way back to score the touchdown. Then we realized that it was all the women who actually were watching. I just thought that was funny.
We went biking yesterday down to the BNSF train car sorting yard and I took this shot at Interbay looking back to Magnolia. What is the actual title of that job position. Train Car Sorter? I think I could be a train sorter.....BNSF give me a call.

First day of the rest of my life.
So yesterday was my last day at WaMu. And today I'm officially unemployed. Good times. We went to the beach this morning. Here are a couple of my train action shots.
